Although I promised myself I would make time to blog and document my time in Paris, it has proved to be a challenge to balance my internship, schoolwork and enjoying my time here. In order to avoid burning myself out on the trip of a lifetime, this blog has fallen behind on my list of priorities. However, after a weekend trip to Amsterdam, I am feeling refreshed and excited to take on new challenges and projects. Updates on Paris are coming soon, but right now I want to take a moment to reflect on my brief love affair with Amsterdam.
Because of my work schedule, I haven’t had a ton of opportunities to travel around Europe. However, thanks to Bastille Day, a long weekend was the perfect opportunity to get away.
A few friends and I chose Amsterdam because it’s simply so different from Paris. When we got there, we immediately felt a completely different atmosphere. Amsterdam is, for lack of a better word, chill. And although I have loved my time in Paris, working in the fashion capital of the world during Haute Couture Fashion Week was anything but chill. Walking along the canals of Amsterdam was a breath of fresh air, both literally and figuratively.
Much of our time in Amsterdam was spent simply exploring. the beautiful cobblestone streets and brick buildings are perfect for walking (or biking!) around all day. We rented bikes and got lost, visited the Van Gogh Museum, took an evening boat ride along the canal and, of course, ate tons of yummy waffles.
A long weekend in Amsterdam was the perfect break I needed from the challenges of working in a city like Paris. Between the beautiful scenery, crisp air and yummy desserts, the weekend felt like a vacation from my vacation.
Best of all, my little escape to Amsterdam was just what I needed to revive my excitement and wonder towards Paris. I’m excited for amazing things to come in the next two weeks before I return home! I can’t wait to share.
For now, I’ll leave you with this:
